Blog Post 1 - Drive

First of all the artist in this video along with the message impressed me a great deal.  I found it incredibly interesting that the more monetary incentives offered, in the mentioned studies, the less effective and efficient people were.  Motivation is an important part of our daily lives.  The essential questions is, “What motivates people?”  I found it poignant that people like to do great things because of the sheer contribution to society.  As a future leader I plan to implement intrinsic motivational factors and build on the strengths of our staff and community.  I would highly recommend taking the time to view Daniel Pink's DRIVE video.

  1. Intrinsic motivation...an Intersting dilemma! Do you find people are not as intrinsically motivated as they use to be? It seems to me that many students want to know "what they will get" if they complete a task, get a good grade, etc. Instead of just doing it because it is the right or best thing to do! It may be a challenge for us to rekindle the inner motivation in those we work with and the students we serve! We have quite a journey ahead!

  3. I hear you when you talk about getting staff that has this intrinsic motivation, just not sure how you generate it in people that don't already have it. If you figure that out please let me know.
